The Black History And Lifestyle Awards

Who We Are

Black history is all about creating awareness for our culture and how we can improve as a community. We also create a platform for the youths to share their thoughts and ideas on various topics like business, tech, societal norms and so on. With the first edition of the event held in Lagos, Nigeria, we are expanded the scope of this event to , Los Angeles, USA and London, Uk where dignitaries, celebrities, expatriates, ambassadors, the elite, entertainment and fashion enthusiasts around the globe would be invited to attend.

Mission Black History and Lifestyle focuses on giving honorary recognitions, celebration, and amplifying history of pasts and present individuals who have impacted the world with their activism, talents and achievements.

Vision Considering that this is the first event of its kind, our goal is to make sure that a sizable portion of our target audience understands what black history is all about and how modernization has affected us.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER at bhla 2024

Lula Davis-Holmes

Lula Davis-Holmes was elected as the first black female Mayor of Carson. Immediately prior to that, spanning over a decade, Mayor Davis-Holmes served the City of Carson as a City Councilmember.

Accomplishments

* The First Elected Black Female Mayor of Carson (2020)
* City of Carson's First Female Recreation Center Supervisor Assigned to Stevenson Park in 1980
* City of Carson's First Female Appointed to the Position of Recreation Superintendent
* Elected to the City of Carson City Council for Four Terms (2007, 2011, 2015, 2019)
* Appointed twice as Carson Mayor Pro Tempore (MPT)
Spearhead a Workforce Housing Project for Middle-Income Residents of the Community and Development of Affordable Housing for Seniors and Veterans

Such was the discussion under the panel session of

Such was the discussion under the panel session of ‘Digital Solutions and & Collaborative opportunity for the U. S. Africa Trade at the Black History and Lifestyle International Investment Summit and Trade Expo 2024’. This session attracted some of the best policy makers from trade and diplomacy disciplines to look at the future of economic relations between U. S. and Africa.

Here, Margaret Olele, the CEO, American Business Council Nigeria, used her vast knowledge on how digital disruption can help to fill spaces and bring prospects for organizations on different continents. Among the insights that she provided about the technological advancement in trade, the most impressive was the understanding of the value of innovation in global economy and in enhancing relationship between United States and African businesses.

Ambassador Bolaji Akinremi who is the Director of Trade at the Ministry of Foreign affairs shared the diplomatic view and pointed to the place of the government in these partnerships. He stressed policy agendas and bi-lateral arrangements as a caution that a sound base cannot be overemphasized when it comes to improving trade relations, and that these must support the integration of digital technologies into domestic policies.

The session was masterfully chaired, in terms of questioning and general conduct by Ernest Danjuma Enebi. The session was also full of tips that the speakers were ready to provide our audience with straight away, which made the session not only the way to expand the knowledge but to make changes.

Their discussion was an important move forward towards conceptualising what newer potentials for the U. S. -Africa trade relations can be brought into focus as enabled by digital tools and international cooperation. From the conceptual propositions given, it can be concluded that with a proper combination of innovation and policy intervention, the future for U. S. – Africa trade is auspicious.

As one of the highest income-generating states in the U.S. and the fifth largest economy in the world, California stands as a global leader in innovation, sustainability and economic growth. At the Black History and Lifestyle International Investment Summit & Trade Expo 2024, we had the honor of welcoming Toks Omishakin, who represented the Governor of California, to share insights into the state’s incredible journey.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s vision for California is clear: a state that not only leads in economic output but also in pioneering sustainable development and inclusive growth. It’s a vision rooted in the belief that prosperity should be accessible to all, and that innovation is the key to unlocking a brighter future.

Toks Omishakin passionately conveyed this vision during his keynote address, where he spoke about California’s transformative approach to transportation. He highlighted how the state’s investments in sustainable infrastructure and cutting-edge transportation systems have not only boosted economic growth but also improved the quality of life for its residents.

But the most inspiring part of Toks’ speech was his perspective on how we can recreate this success in Nigeria. By adopting a forward-thinking approach to infrastructure development and embracing innovative solutions, Nigeria has the potential to transform its transportation sector, drive economic growth and enhance the lives of its citizens.

Toks Omishakin’s insights were a powerful reminder that the future of our cities and economies lies in our hands. With the right vision and determination, we can create a transportation network in Nigeria that mirrors the successes of California, leading to a more prosperous and sustainable future.

We also appreciate the director, external affairs for Southern California, director Maurice Lyles for his attendance as a representative from the office of the governor of California.

In a heart-felt speech, she brought us back to the reality of why we are here: To honor where we come from; savoring all that our past gives us and commit to what it can build– bridging communities, networking for opportunities.

Those words could not have truer, a vivid reminder that this is more than just an event but a movement. A movement of nostalgia recognized with innovation, connection and expansion building something really game-changing!
